Smilegate Reveals Design Secrets Behind Shadow Raid: Serca

by Lost Ark Hub News

According to a Steam News post by Smilegate RPG, the developers have shared behind-the-scenes details on the creation of Shadow Raid: Serca, the new raid experience coming to Lost Ark. The raid introduces three new mechanics: the brawl system, shadow skills, and a shared resurrection pool.

The Transformation from Serca to Corvus Tul Rak

The team explained that the dramatic shift from the beautiful witch Serca to the horrifying Primordial Being Corvus Tul Rak was intentional. “The Primordial Beings are entities that exist in endless deficiency, parasitizing others by wearing their appearances,” the developers stated. Serca’s design was inspired by witches from “grim fairy tales,” with elements like a large hat, long hair, and golden hands meant to spark player curiosity.

For Corvus Tul Rak, the team started with a raven concept but revised it to emphasize visual contrast. “From the hunched spine, bent under countless eons… to multiple pairs of thin arms, tattered garments, and grotesquely twisted dead branches, we combined these elements to express the horror and discomfort befitting the Primordial Beings,” they said. The final model, paired with a howling voice, achieved the intended dark fantasy atmosphere.

A Solid Foundation for Future Shadow Raids

The developers view this as a foundational step in establishing the identity of the Primordial Beings, setting the stage for even more unimaginable entities in future Shadow Raids.
